Phillips 'knows Henderson's Dad' as he delivers bold verdict on his Liverpool future amid 'text' claim
Kevin Phillips is adamant Jordan Henderson will sign a new contract with Liverpool.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, who is friends with the Reds captain’s dad, claimed there is “no desire” from the player to leave.
The Athletic‘s James Pearce and David Ornstein revealed on July 19th that there has been ‘no progress’ in contract talks between the club and the centre-midfielder during the off-season.
It is said there is now a real possibility of the centre-midfielder leaving Anfield in this window, with Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid keeping an eye on developments.
Henderson‘s current contract does not expire until the end of June 2023, by which time he will be 33.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Henderson’s future, Phillips said: “I’m really surprised by all of this.

“We don’t know the ins and outs of the demands. I understand from a business point of view you can’t give out huge contracts to 31-year-olds but he has legendary status. I’m pretty sure Jordan is not asking for stupid money because he has so much respect for the club.
“I think it will get resolved though. They will come to an agreement because there would be a huge backlash from Liverpool supporters if he was to leave the football club. I see him staying there.
“I don’t think there is any desire from Jordan to leave. Listen, I know Jordan’s dad and I might get a text off him later saying I’m wrong but he is Liverpool through and through.
“The greatest scenario would be for him to get to 35 with Liverpool and then return to Sunderland for a season or two in the Championship or Premier League.”
