Kevin Phillips claims Leeds United should sign Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt when his contract expires this summer.
The former Sunderland forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says the capture of van Aanholt would help United to fix a problem area.
Van Aanholt is one of several Palace players who are out of contract this summer with Christian Benteke and Andros Townsend among other high profile names set to leave Selhurst Park.
The Mirror have reported that Leeds are interested in signing van Aanholt this summer as Marcelo Bielsa plans to recruit a new left-back.
Phillips would rate the signing of van Aanholt though he is concerned about his injury record though he is less convinced by the potential capture of Benteke.
“Yes, though he’s like Luke Ayling with his injuries,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs when asked if van Aanholt would be a good signing.
“He’s showed he’s assured in a specialised position that he knows very well. We all know Leeds will be looking at that area this summer.
“He’s very good going forward which Bielsa will like. At times he gets caught out defensively but you can get away with that when you’re playing with Kalvin Phillips.
“That could be a signing that will go under the radar but prove to be a very good addition.
“Benteke’s a myth. Sometimes he’s unplayable and sometimes he’s disinterested. He could turn out to be a very good signing for someone if they get him playing right.”
Van Aanholt has started 17 of Palace’s 29 Premier League games this season picking up one goal across 18 total outings.
He has made 209 Premier League appearances during his career, mainly at Palace and Sunderland.
