Kevin Phillips claims Mo Salah will have mixed feelings about Sergio Ramos being ruled out of the Champions League quarter-final clashes between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims Salah will want to get one over on the Real Madrid captain after their clash during the 2018 Champions League final.
Ramos pulled Salah to the ground in the first half of that game and Salah had to go off injured as Real went on to win the match 3-1.
Real Madrid have confirmed that Ramos will miss both legs against Liverpool through injury and Phillips insists Salah will have mixed feelings about the situation from a personal point of view.
“There’s probably a big part of Salah just thinking ‘I’m glad he’s out because he’s a nuisance,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He’ll have mixed feelings. As a player, when the opposing team has one of their best defenders out you’re happy generally.
“If you had the choice, you’d say ‘no I don’t want him to play’ but if you’ve got that personal duel you will want to get one over on the other player.
“It is a shame but it’s a positive for Liverpool that one of Real Madrid’s best players isn’t going to be there.”
Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-0 on Saturday night as Diogo Jota scored either side of a Salah goal in what will be a confidence-boosting result ahead of the clash against Los Blancos.
The result also gave Liverpool’s hopes of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League a boost though most of the teams around them all have at least one game in hand.
