Phillips shares 'brilliant' Bamford claim ahead of Leeds clash v Liverpool
Kevin Phillips insists Patrick Bamford will be “firing on all cylinders” for Leeds v Liverpool despite his England disappointment.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted after the striker made his debut against Andorra last week.
The 28-year-old touched the ball just 17 times (via WhoScored) against the minnows before being substituted for Harry Kane on 62 minutes.
Bamford was handed his first international nod after scoring 17 goals in 38 games last season.
Similarly to Bamford, Phillips didn’t score when he made his first appearance for the Three Lions.
The former striker insists Bamford won’t be deterred by his blank for England and tipped him to prove a point this weekend.

“He’ll just get on with it,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It reminds me of my England debut against Hungary. I played the whole game but I didn’t score.
“When you come back you think about whether it will affect you and you can’t let it.
“He will get opportunities for Leeds and he will score goals, that’s his job.
“He will probably feel brilliant, he has played for his country and not many players have the chance to do that.
“Let’s remember he has been criticised before and look how he answered his critics last season.
“I expect him to come back firing on cylinders against Liverpool.”
Bamford has scored once in the Premier League this season.
He will look to prove his worth to Gareth Southgate ahead of the next round of World Cup qualifiers.
