Phillips slams Rodrigo as a waste of 'money' after 'honest' Leeds claim
Kevin Phillips has slammed Leeds United attacker Rodrigo Moreno after another “disappointing” display.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 30-year-old has not lived up to his hefty price tag since arriving to Elland Road.
Rodrigo started his first game since 27 November on Saturday as the Whites slipped to a 1-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United.
The Spain international made his long-awaited return from a heel injury as a substitute in last week’s 3-2 win at West Ham.
Leeds United signed Rodrigo for a club-record £27million fee in the summer of 2020.
However, the left-footer has struggled to put a run of games together for Marcelo Bielsa’s side because of injuries.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Rodrigo’s time at Leeds, Phillips said:
“His performances haven’t justified the amount they spent on him. It was a lot of money.
“We have seen his glimpses of his quality but we have not seen it consistently. For nearly £30million you want to see a player producing the goods every week, especially with the reputation he has got.
“I would say he’s been disappointing so far for Leeds, in all honesty.”
Rodrigo has scored two goals in his 14 Premier League appearances this season.
In his 45 career appearances for Leeds, he has contributed nine goals and two assists.
He has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.
