Phillips tips James to explode next season amid £25m Leeds link

Kevin Phillips claims Dan James will explode next season amid fresh links with a move to Leeds United.

The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest in the Whites’ transfer hunt.

On 19th July, The Telegraph claimed Manchester United are demanding £25million for James this summer.

On 21st July, Leeds Live also claimed the Whites remain interested in signing the attacker.

James, 23, joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2019 from Swansea City.

Just months earlier, James nearly joined Leeds as he completed a medical and even signed a contract before the move fell through.

The attacker told the Man Utd podcast that “It got to one minute to 11pm” on deadline day before the move fell through.

Phillips claims James will explode next season and admitted £25million is the standard price for a player like him.

“That’s the standard price,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

He did very well in his first season but last season wasn’t the same. He was very quiet.

“As a young player going to Man United, you always have that second season dip.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he really performs next season, whoever he’s playing for.

“He’s got that experience from the Euros and will be on a high after getting out of the groups.

“£25million is the standard price when you leave Manchester United.

“Wherever he goes this summer, he will get back to that form he showed during his first season at Man United.”

James scored four goals and chipped in with seven assists during his first season at Old Trafford.

Despite a drop in game time, the Wales international found the net five times last season.
