Phillips tips Tottenham to steal long-term Arsenal target Aouar in stunning £17m deal
Kevin Phillips insists it would be great business if Tottenham can beat Arsenal to the signing of Houssem Aouar.
The Sunderland legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the news that the Frenchman is reportedly available at £13million less than last year.
According to Get French Football News (July 16th), Lyon’s centre-midfielder, who has been the subject of enquiries from Arsenal and Spurs, could be available for as little as £17million this summer.
The Gunners were chasing Aouar 12 months ago but their £30million-plus bid was rejected by his club.
Lyon’s price slash is in part down to the television rights crisis in France.
This has left many sides millions of Euros worse off and as a result, players are being sold to keep clubs afloat.

Phillips told Tottenham to “just go and do it” if Aouar is really available for just £17million.
“Any player you try to sign from France, you have that benefit of being a Premier League club,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“If you can get him for that kind of money, just go and do it. It’s as simple as that.
“If you have the chance to get one over on Arsenal then it’s a good bit of business. I can see it.
“Nuno knows what he’s doing and that’s important. He will know how he wants his Tottenham team to play.
“If he can get those signings in then you will see a different style of play at the start of the season.”
Aouar, 23, scored eight goals and chipped in with three assists in 33 games for Lyon last season.
However, he failed to make Les Bleus’ Euro 2020 squad this summer.
