Piers Morgan has given his opinion on the reported deal that Arsenal and Chelsea have reportedly struck for Olivier Giroud.

claimed earlier on Tuesday that the two clubs had agreed an £18m deal after being locked in talks all day over a deal. They claim that the deal almost broke down over the price but that the two clubs have found the middle ground. The deal could unlock Arsenal's move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi rumoured to be heading to Borussia Dortmund on loan. This transfer merry-go-round would mean that Aubameyang would be free to finally complete his move to Arsenal after landing in the country today ahead of a medical. Outspoken Arsenal fan Morgan said that Giroud was a "good player" and had given Arsenal 100%. However he also said, "If selling him is the key to signing a top class striker like Aubameyang, I'll drive him to Chelsea myself."

Football Insider verdict:

Lots of Arsenal fans will be sorry to see Giroud go and especially to such a close rival. He has delivered for the club and has perhaps been unfairly criticised by some sections of the media and supporters. However, Aubameyang is something else entirely and if he needs to go to get the elite striker in, it's a sacrifice worth making. Like Morgan says, there's no room for sentiment at the top and we just hope Giroud would never get booed when he returns to the Emirates.
