PIF’s future at Newcastle revealed amid speculation: ‘Those days are gone’
Newcastle United’s Saudi owners will not be throwing all their money at the club’s major infrastructure projects.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, as the PIF may seek minority investment to help fund Newcastle’s stadium and training ground plans.
The PIF have withdrawn their investment in LIV Golf, and are seeking extra backing to ensure Newcastle’s major projects go ahead.
The club have yet to confirm whether they will redevelop St James’ Park or build a new stadium, but plans for a new training ground are set to be announced.
Newcastle are seeking to raise extra revenue and attract players to the club with the plans, which have been in the pipeline since the PIF arrived in 2021.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the PIF will remain committed to Newcastle for the foreseeable future.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Newcastle fans can look forward to “exciting times” under the Saudi ownership.
| Total Revenue | £335.3m |
| Matchday Income | £51.6m |
| Commercial Income | £120.1m |
| Wages | £343m |
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’m still believing that PIF are going to stay with Newcastle and see this through, but they’re not just throwing money at things anymore, and I completely get that, and I don’t expect them to.
“So I’m sure that there’s been some real thought and clever engineering about how they’re going to move forward and there should, hopefully, be a new training ground and a new stadium to look forward to.
“Then we’ve got to see that team perform on the pitch and that’s what football comes down to. But exciting times for Newcastle. Not as easy as they hoped, and it isn’t just writing a cheque from the PIF, that’s for sure. Those days are gone.”
Newcastle to pursue Chelsea striker this summer
Newcastle face another busy summer in the transfer market, as manager Eddie Howe looks to rebuild his squad following a disappointing campaign.
Howe needs to source a new striker to help his side score more goals, with the signings of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa last summer having not paid off.
Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle could reignite their pursuit of Liam Delap, who favoured a move to Chelsea over Tyneside last summer.
Delap’s time at Stamford Bridge though has not gone to plan, and the 23-year-old is now being targeted by a number of Premier League clubs.
