Premier League club Watford are planning a double swoop on Merseyside for Everton winger Aaron Lennon and defender Alberto Moreno from Liverpool, according to a recent report.
The Sun has revealed that Watford boss Marco Silva has made an enquiry for 25-year-old Alberto Moreno after he slipped in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order throughout the last season.
The Reds’ left-back moved to Anfield from Sevilla back in 2015 in a deal worth over £15million, but the Spaniard has since fallen out of favour after making just 18 appearances throughout the whole of last season.
It is thought that the Watford boss is keen on securing the full-back in order to provide competition for current left-back Jose Holebas.
In addition to Moreno, the Premier League club are seeking to pinch Aaron Lennon from Everton in a loan-deal, but Ronald Koeman is looking for a more permanent deal.
Lennon, 30, faced a tricky end to the 2016/17 after he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act at the end of April.
However, over the summer the English winger showed his positive recovery by rejoining his team mates for pre-season training.
Silva looks hopeful to perform some last minute altercations before the Premier League season kickstarts next weekend.
The London club will meet Moreno’s Merseyside squad next Saturday as Liverpool travel to vicarage road for their opening game of their 2017/18 campaign.
Football Insider verdict:
Moreno desperately needs to get away from Anfield or he faces the whole of the next season watching from the sidelines. He could command a starting spot in a number of other Premier League teams and it’s time for him to wave goodbye to his teammates and challenge himself again. Watford isn’t the most glamorous of destinations and Silva hasn’t strengthened his team much beyond Tom Cleverley and Nathaniel Chalobah, but Moreno would be a good addition to the side.
In other Liverpool news, this international centre-back on the Reds’ radar is set to complete his medical ahead of a move.
