Manchester United ready to hijack Arsenal bid to sign £55m-valued forward - report

Premier League giants Manchester United are considering pursuing Monaco star Thomas Lemar despite heavy interest from Arsenal throughout the summer, according to a report.
The Daily Record has revealed that Jose Mourinho’s side are ready to hijack the Gunners’ bid to sign the 21-year-old after failing to land Gareth Bale or Christiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.
The newspaper claims that the Red Devils are keen on recruiting the wide forward even though Arsenal have been close to signing him over recent months.
It is understood that Mourinho has added Lemar to his target list, but the Ligue 1 club are looking for around £55 million for the Frenchman.
United could be upping their pursuit of the star after Arsenal looked to cool their interest in the star, as the Daily Mail recently revealed that the Gunners looked more likely to bring the Monaco ace to the Emirates next summer instead.

The report detailed that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would instead focus on offloading a number of unwanted players over the summer rather than make any more signings.
Football Insider verdict
With Manchester United’s new interest in the Monaco star, it’s vital that Arsenal re-enter the race to show that they are committed to bringing Thomas Lemar to north London. If Lemar went to United it would probably completely destroy Arsenal’s chances of recruiting him next season. Arsene Wenger must quickly offload fringe players to accumulate sufficient funds to go towards bringing the 21-year-old to the Emirates. A big move close to transfer deadline day would provide a massive boost to the squad and also the fans. Lamar’s recruitment would be a kick in the right direction after their already positive start to their Premier League season, and would also give the club a one-up over United.
In other Arsenal news, the club are on the verge of selling another experienced defender as Wenger fire sale continues.
