Tottenham fans will be delighted that huge favourite Alderweireld is firmly in the running to return for the crunch cup clash, which has taken on greater significance following the team’s Champions League exit. His leadership, mobility and all-round class has been missed by Spurs in recent matches, most particularly in both fixtures against Juventus and in the first half of last weekend’s win over Bournemouth. Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez have formed a decent partnership but the Colombian’s rawness manifests itself in some avoidable errors, and most Spurs supporters will agree that the team is better with Alderweireld in it.
