Pochettino sticks £30m-rated PL midfield maestro top of Tottenham wish-list, player swap mooted - report
By Danny Wright
Tottenham have identified Everton’s Ross Barkley as their number one transfer target for the summer, according to a report.
The Mirror reports that the 23-year-old is top of Mauricio Pochettino’s shopping list and that he will have to spend at least £30million to prise him away from Merseyside.
Moussa Sissoko could find himself going the other way in a potential swap deal after the French midfielder has struggled on his debut season for the club after arriving from Newcastle for £30million.
The 27-year-old almost moved to Goodison Park on the summer transfer deadline day at the beginning of this season but talks over personal terms broke down after an initial fee was agreed between the Toffees and Newcastle.
Barkley has played 29 times in all competitions for Ronald Koeman’s side this season scoring five goals and providing seven assists.

The 23-year-old has seen his role at Everton vary throughout the season as he has been deployed on the right wing in a number of recent games – despite his more natural role being as an attacking midfielder.
Since emerging from the Everton youth academy, the midfield maestro has made a total of 169 appearances for the Merseyside club and scored 26 goals.
He has earned 22 caps for England since making his international debut in 2013.
Football Insider Verdict
It’s great for English football that Tottenham have done so well with such a high number of young English players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier. However if they cram too much into their squad then someone is going to have to miss out. Spurs already have an incredibly talented midfield which is perhaps the best in the league. Do they need Barkley, especially as a swap deal for Sissoko who is usually played on the wing? Having said that, there’s a constant nagging suspicion that Barkley has yet to reach the heights he has promised and in that respect he’s similar to Arsenal’s under-achiever Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. If Pochettino is confident that he can get the most from the player, it could end up being one of the best deals of the summer.
