'Forget that idea' – Poch lays into critics as Tottenham look ahead to Crystal Palace clash
By Matt Bullin
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has claimed his players do have the mentality to succeed after they suffered criticism following the FA Cup defeat to Chelsea.
Saturday’s 4-2 loss at Wembley put an end to Spurs’ FA Cup dreams for another year, although they are still very much in the title race.
Goals from Harry Kane and Dele Alli were in vain for Tottenham, as strikes from Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic and a Willian brace sent their London rivals through to the final.
However, there is still a slim chance at winning silverware for Pochettino’s side this term – the Premier League title.
Tottenham are four points behind league leaders Chelsea with six games remaining, and their next test is a tricky away tie at Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

Spurs have enjoyed a remarkable season under Pochettino this year, though some have still questioned his sides’ mental toughness, particularly after their semi-final defeat.
Pochettino responded to these critics in the Evening Standard.
He said: “The players deserve full credit and people should forget that idea about mentality, because it’s not true. They are winners. It is another thing to win titles, but they are winners.
“It’s important to have memory. We started to compete only in the last two seasons. Last season we finished third, Tottenham’s best finish in Premier League history, and now we are second fighting with the big sides.”
Since his arrival at White Hart Lane in 2014, Pochettino has turned the side around and has enjoyed three successful seasons so far.
The Argentine will hope his players prove him right and bounce back to winning ways on Wednesday night as they continue to put pressure on Chelsea at the top of the league.
