Pontus Jansson has this message for Leeds fans ahead of Derby clash

By Amir Mir

Pontus Jansson has told Leeds fans that “we need you more than ever” ahead of their clash against Derby on Friday night.

Centre-back Jansson is suspended for the Championship fixture after he picked up his tenth booking of the campaign during the 2-1 win over Cambridge in the FA Cup on Monday night.

It means Garry Monk’s side will be without one of their key players as they aim to maintain their push for promotion this season at Elland Road.

The Whites have won their last four games on home soil as they welcome the promotion-chasing Rams to Yorkshire.

Ahead of the match, Jansson had this message to his players and supporters as posted on his personal Twitter account.

Jansson, who is on loan from Italian side Torino, has become a firm fan favourite since arriving at Elland Road last summer.

He has played 21 games in all competitions, scoring two goals, supplying the same number of assists and helping his side secure nine clean sheets in the process.

As a result, Garry Monk’s side sit in the top six in the Championship on 45 points from their 25 games, five ahead of the Rams who are seventh.

Their opponents come into this match having beaten Premier League side West Brom in the FA Cup last Saturday.

A win for Steve McClearn’s men could see them move into the top six and close the gap on Monk’s team.

In other Leeds news, Kyle Bartley and Pablo Hernandez have been omitted in the best Whites and Derby combined XI.
