Pontus Jansson posts Twitter message after Leeds draw v Aston Villa

By Dominic Toner

Leeds defender Pontus Jansson admitted he was “disappointed” on Twitter after the draw against Aston Villa, but claims it shows how far the club have come.

The Whites earned a 1-1 draw at Villa park on Thursday night in the Championship and Jansson gave the visitors the lead in the second-half.

The 25-year-old scored his second goal of the season with a well-timed header from a corner, but Jonathan Kodjia scored an 86th minute equaliser from the penalty spot to ensure the teams shared the points.

Garry Monk’s side moved up to fourth in the league table and their play-off challenge is still very much in full flow.

Jansson explained he was disappointed to drop points on Thursday, but believes that it shows the strong position they are in this season.

“You know you are far ahead when you are disappointed after 1 point away against Aston Villa,” Jansson wrote on his personal Twitter account.

Villa are regarded as one of the biggest clubs in the division following their relegation from the Premier League last season and Jansson reminded supporters what a valuable point they had earned.

Leeds appointed Monk as their manager in the summer and he has transformed the Yorkshire club into promotion candidates.

The Whites endured a tricky start to the campaign and are now regarded as one of the most dangerous sides in the division.

Jansson has been one of the club’s standout players and he has become a huge favourite with supporters.

The centre-back moved to Elland Road in the summer on a season-long loan from Italian side Torino and has established himself as one of the Championship’s best defenders.

He has forged a commanding partnership alongside Kyle Bartley in defence this season, but looked equally as strong alongside Liam Cooper against Villa as the former missed out through injury.

In other Leeds news, the club’s supporters reacted on Twitter to Gaetano Berardi’s performance against Villa.
