Leicester City are set to rival Tottenham for the signature of Sporting Lisbon’s Adrien Silva, according to a report.
Portuguese outlet OJogo claim that the Premier League champions have been in touch with the Portuguese giants over the transfer of Silva.
The Sun reported that the 27-year-old club captain has also been targeted by Spurs in this summer transfer window, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to bolster his squad.
OJogo claim that the Foxes will offer in the region of £21.3million for the services of the midfielder.
The Sun had claimed that Spurs needed to sell before they buy, and after the departing duo of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, it was thought that Pochettino would be bringing in another midfielder before the window slams shut.
Silva has expressed his desire to leave Sporting and hopes that the Portuguese fans will understand his imminent move, wherever it may be to.
“After 15 years at Sporting, this opportunity is something exceptional for me and will allow me to… evolve in the Premier League, which is a stunning league.
“After so many years of loyalty, I think that no one will criticize me for wanting to embrace this challenge,” he said.
“I love the Sporting, but it’s time to leave.”
Silva, 27, has made 13 appearances for his country and was part of the Portugal squad that upset the odds by winning Euro 2016 in France, beating the hosts in the final.
The central midfielder has scored 33 goals in 199 appearances for Sporting, along with registering 15 assists in a career where he has won the Taca de Portugal twice and the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira three times.
Known for his passing qualities, Silva is Sporting’s midfield heartbeat and was crowned the club’s player of the year in 2013.
