Watford have enquired about signing Newcastle full-back Daryl Janmaat, according to a report.
The Mail claim that the Premier League club have made an approach for the Holland international and have been quoted a price tag of £10million.
The 26-year-old’s time at St James’ Park seems to be up after the Magpies confirmed the signing of full-back Jesus Gamez from Atletico Madrid last Friday and it is claimed that Janmaat will be allowed to leave the north east if Rafael Benitez is able to add more defensive signings.
Watford want a wing-back to fit into Walter Mazzarri’s new plans but it is reported that the asking price is too steep at this stage.
Newcastle have tabled three bids for Blackburn centre-back Grant Hanley, with the most recent of £5.5million, but have yet to meet the Lancashire club’s asking price.
Janmaat joined the Magpies from Feyenoord in a £5million deal in 2014 signing a six-year contract.
The former Feyenoord player broke two fingers punching a wall in anger after Newcastle suffered a 3-1 loss to Southampton in March and returned to the first-team when relegation was already sealed.
The Holland international made 32 appearances for Newcastle in their doomed Premier League campaign, but did bag two goals and four assists in those games.
The St James’ Park club are looking to overhaul their squad which suffered relegation to the Championship, as they attempt to bounce back to the top flight at the first time.
The Magpies managed to keep hold of former Benitez and have already brought in five players this summer, which include Isaac Hayden, Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie all joining from Premier League sides.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies French winger Florian Thauvin is set to rejoin Marseille on a season-long loan.
