Sources: Ipswich Town in hunt to sign ex-Chelsea player Henry Lawrence

Ipswich Town are lining up a move to sign Standard Liege centre-back Henry Lawrence, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League returnees are among a group of several clubs that have the 24-year-old on their radar as a target this summer.

Lawrence has impressed in his three-year stint at Standard Liege, who recently rejected a bid for him from Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv.

The former Chelsea starlet is attracting plenty of interest at the moment, with Ipswich keen to give him a chance to shine in the Premier League.

The defender turned out 31 times for Standard last term, helping them to a mid-table finish in the Belgian top flight.

He has now emerged as a clear target for the Tractor Boys, as Gary O'Neil and Co. aim to bolster their backline.

Lawrence learned his trade as part of Chelsea's esteemed academy at Cobham, but never progressed into the senior squad in West London.

He left Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023, having taken in loan spells in League One with both MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon.

Since then, Lawrence has been plying his trade in Belgium, where he has continued to steadily grow his reputation with some consistent performances.

He has been a shining light in a Standard side that has struggled to secure a return to European football in recent years.

Ipswich are now hoping to add the defender to their squad this summer, and are prepared to hand him a taste of Premier League football for the first time in his career.

Lawrence was tipped for a big future in his days at Chelsea's academy, and he could soon be about to realise his true potential with Ipswich.

Ipswich backed to sign Nick Pope on 'reduced terms'

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider at the start of July that Ipswich are well-placed to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope this summer.

The newly-promoted outfit have been heavily linked with a move for the 34-year-old this summer, as he could be set to join the club who he supports.

Wyness has backed Ipswich to strike a £10million deal for the former England international, but believes he will need to accept "reduced terms" compared to his Newcastle contract.

Pope has since turned out for Newcastle in pre-season friendlies, but the Magpies are still keen to move him on once a replacement is sourced.
