Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has tipped Celtic to clinched a second successive domestic treble with a 4-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish Cup Final.
Writing in his column on the Sky Sports website, Nicholas believes that even though the pressure will be on the Hoops to create history, they can handle that and he tipped Tom Rogic to score first and be a key man for the Bhoys.
“Well people might suggest it is a foregone conclusion but all the pressure is on Celtic. There is history on the line, with the opportunity to win back-to-back trebles for the first time,” Nicholas said.
“The man I expect to make the difference is Tom Rogic with his runs from midfield.”
“Cedric Kipre has been sent off in two of the meetings this season and he and Scott Brown will be be queuing up to kick each other, so I think there will disciplinary issues along with plenty of goals.”
The teams previously met in the Betfred Cup Final this season, with the Hoops comfortably winning 3-0.
Football Insider verdict
Motherwell fans won’t take too kindly to Nicholas’ prediction of an easy Hoops win, and it would be a bit of a shock if Brendan Rodgers’ side won so emphatically, as they have struggled to score goals in recent weeks. He is correct about the pressure that the Hoops are under though, as they have the chance to make history and become the first Scottish team to win the domestic treble two seasons in a row. The first goal could be vital, Motherwell taking the lead could give them plenty of confidence for the rest of the game whilst if the Hoops score first you would imagine that they would go on to win the game relatively comfortably. Only time will tell, but the game could well be far closer than Nicholas has predicted although he is correct that if the Bhoys play to the best of their abilities on the day then there really should only be one winner.
