Pundit admits 'shock' at Leeds deal after recent Bamford news
Frank McAvennie was left shocked by how long it took Leeds United to hand Partick Bamford a new deal.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, reacted to the latest on Bamford.
Leeds confirmed on 19 August that the 27-year-old had penned a new five-year deal with the club.
This comes after a Premier League season in which he scored 17 goals.
He also played in every league game for Leeds as they finished in the top half.
Bamford bagged his first goal of the season on Sunday with a late equaliser against Burnley.

McAvennie has admitted he can’t believe how long it took Leeds to give Bamford a new deal after his outstanding 2020-21 season.
“I’m shocked it didn’t happen sooner,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s the main man for Leeds and he will have been gutted the fans weren’t in there last season.
“Elland Road is magnificent when it’s full and bouncing, it’s a great venue that deserves great players.
“Bamford was that last season, he scored a load of goals and proved everyone wrong.
“It’s a simple move to give him a deal but a great one as well.
“He played so many games too so he’s obviously fit as anything. They need to keep him fit this season.”
Bamford also received his first England call up last week after missing out on Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad.
