Pundit 'amazed' by Celtic amid 'behind the scenes' issues

Frank McAvennie insists Celtic can still win the title this season despite sitting six points behind Rangers.

The former Hoops hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Ange Postecoglou can mastermind an unlikely title win.

Celtic return to league action on Monday night (17 January) against Hibernian as they look to chase down Rangers.

The Hoops finished 25 points behind their city rivals last season.

However, Postecoglou has sparked a revolution since his arrival and has already achieved success in the League Cup.

McAvennie has been wowed by Postecoglou’s work considering constant issues behind the scenes.

“Look, there is a title race this season,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Yes, Celtic are behind but we are not completely out of it. I’m just amazed about where we are.

“It’s brilliant. If you look at where we were in the summer and where we are now, you could not have predicted that.

“That’s all down to the manager as well. He’s still not got his own people in remember.

“There is also all sorts going on behind the scenes with people coming and going, despite all that he is doing so well.

“He’s rebuilt a culture there, the lads look like they are really enjoying themselves.

Celtic defeated Hibs on 19 December in the League Cup final as they returned to winning silverware after last season’s trophyless campaign.

Tonight’s game could see the debut of the club’s new Japanese stars Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate.
