Pundit backs Celtic to sign the new McGregor amid 'massive' Sky update
Noel Whelan has claimed Celtic could sign their own Allan McGregor in the shape of Watford star Ben Foster.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Rangers goalkeeper had proven the value of experience between the sticks.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday (July 29th), Celtic have interest in Foster, 38, as well as Tottenham keeper Joe Hart.
The Hornets shot-stopper is into the final year of his contract at Vicarage Road.
He lost his place in the Watford starting XI to Daniel Bachmann last season.
Whelan insisted Foster would be a “massive” signing for Celtic despite his age.

He pointed to Rangers ace McGregor as an example of a goalkeeper flourishing in their later years.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You saw how well McGregor did for Rangers last year. That’s because he’s experienced, he’s a talker and he demands. You need players like that.
“Your 38-year-old goalkeepers now are basically like a 32-year-old striker. They’ve still got loads to offer, they’re still in that good area and time in their life where they can still produce.
“I’m not saying it’s gonna be a four-year contract for a 38-year-old. It’s not. You’re talking a year and then an add-on to another year if you do well for these sort of players.
“Right now, when you need a piece to fit, Foster fits the bill. those two players fit the bill. That is what they need right now, they need a leader and someone with that experience similar to talker.
“I think they’re going to benefit from a goalkeeper like that. If they can get him through the door, it would be a massive plus for them.”
