Newcastle United backed to complete 'incredible' Mykhaylo Mudryk signing after source's update today - pundit

Newcastle United could sign Mykhaylo Mudryk in January as he would be guaranteed to start ahead of Allan Saint-Maximin.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the winger’s future.

Football Insider revealed last week (11 November) that Newcastle United are laying the groundwork to sign Shakhtar Donetsk sensation Mudryk for what could be a club-record fee.

The Magpies have made preliminary moves over a potential January deal costing £50million-plus amid competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal.

A Newcastle source has updated on Saturday to Football Insider that the club regard Mudryk as a viable target for January, but he is just one of a number of potential forward targets they are working on.

As quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano (15 November), Mudryk has opened the door on a move to the Gunners – but suggested he would want to be a “starter” for the Londoners.

McManus insists Mudryk would be an instant starter for the Magpies.

“He could come in and make them better,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“I saw him play against Celtic and he scored an incredible goal. He looks ready for the Premier League.

“You look at Newcastle’s wide options. It’s only Almiron who is producing. Saint-Maximin has been injured, Murphy works hard but doesn’t really score or assist and Ryan Fraser hasn’t been anywhere this season.

“You bring Mudryk in and he is a clear starter, especially for the money you would have to spend to sign him.

“He has such a high ceiling and we have spoken before about how Newcastle might go for it in January now they are in the top three.

“There can’t be many better clubs to sign for than Newcastle at the moment, the place is buzzing.”

Jacob Murphy, Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser have two goals between them this season.

Almiron, meanwhile, has eight.
