Pundit can't believe Aston Villa could sign Eden Hazard after £17.4m update from Spain
Noel Whelan has claimed bringing in Eden Hazard “isn’t the way forward” for Aston Villa after they were linked to the out-of-favour Real Madrid star.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted Unai Emery’s side already have sufficient talent in wide areas – citing stars like Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins.
According to Spanish outlet El Nacional (6 November), Real Madrid have lost patience with Hazard, 31, and are ready to sanction his departure from the Bernabeu.
The report claims Newcastle and Aston Villa are among his potential suitors – with a loan-to-buy deal worth €20million (£17.4million) mentioned.
Emery enjoyed a winning start to life at Villa Park on Sunday (6 November) with a 3-1 victory over Man United.

However, Whelan suggested Hazard is not a player who should be on the “radar” of the Midlands giants.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “When I look at what they’ve got in that attack, I’m not sure they need him.
“He’s not a player who would be on my radar right now.
“There are players already in the squad and the system who can play all the way across that front three – Bailey, Watkins, etc.
“There are so many wide players, now it’s just about finding the right system and the right set-up.
“They’ve got the perfect manager for that. If anyone can get a team working, it’s Unai Emery – that’s why he was brought in.
“For me, someone like Hazard isn’t the way forward. I think they’ve got more than enough in that area, and there’s always a possibility that Hazard can only give you 20 games a season.”
