Pundit claims Arsenal could be on verge of 'phenomenal' Lamptey signing
Noel Whelan has claimed Arsenal could form a “phenomenal” right-hand side by signing Tariq Lamptey from Brighton.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 21-year-old right-back would link up perfectly with Bukayo Saka at the Emirates Stadium.
Speaking on the Transfer Window podcast on Wednesday (29 December), journalist Duncan Castles claimed Arsenal have reignited their interest in Lamptey this month.
He claims the Gunners are exploring the “parameters of the deal”, while Brighton would reportedly not stand in his way if their asking price is met.
Whelan hailed Arsenal’s strategy of signing young, British players.
He insisted a duo of Saka and Lamptey would strike fear into the hearts of opposition defenders.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You can see what they’re doing. They’re trying to get that youth into the side and sign the best youth players around.
“Lamptey is very exciting, very quick. You can imagine him and Saka down that right-hand side. It would be phenomenal – try and keep up with those two guys.
“He’s done enough, he is an exciting player. It won’t only be Arsenal looking at him. There will be other clubs sniffing around him if he keeps playing the way he’s playing.
“A really good young player. Arsenal are showing the intention of not wanting to stop where they are.
They’re wanting to progress, bring new players in, strengthen the squad and push forward towards Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
“That’s where you’re used to seeing Arsenal, in that top four.”
Lamptey has made 31 appearances for Brighton since joining from Chelsea in January 2020.
He missed most of last season and the start of the current campaign with a serious hamstring injury.
