Pundit claims Man City could now sign Bukayo Saka - 'they're ready to pounce'
Noel Whelan has claimed Man City could “pounce” to sign Bukayo Saka next summer if Arsenal don’t qualify for the Champions League.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Citizens will be well aware of the 20-year-old’s desire to play at the top table of European football.
According to The Sun (19 July), Man City and Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Saka as he enters the final two years of his contract.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed (15 July) that talks between Arsenal and the midfielder are still “ongoing” this summer – with his future a “priority” for the London giants.
Saka, who has 18 caps for England, notched 12 goals and seven assists across all competitions last season.
Whelan suggested the “pressure” is on for Arsenal as they battle to keep the midfield star at the club.

“Man City, much like Liverpool, are always in the race for the top players in the world,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“And Saka is one of those players. Arsenal will understand that he will get attention, and it just highlights the pressure on Arteta to make sure they qualify for the Champions League.
“Some of these players, if they don’t manage that, they will walk away from Arsenal – especially Saka if he has just one year left.
“Man City will absolutely be aware of that, and they’ll be ready to pounce. They’re looking to bring in players for four or five years – Saka could do that, and maybe even longer.”
Man City have won four Premier League trophies in the last five seasons.
Pep Guardiola’s side start their latest title defence against West Ham on 7 August.
