Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has played down possible tension between Liverpool bosses and Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker backed the Reds to return "bigger and better" for the 2023-24 campaign.

According to the Mirror, as relayed by Anfield Watch (27 May), the Liverpool hierarchy refused the manager's request to hand James Milner a contract extension.

The Merseysiders have already confirmed Milner's departure following the expiration of his contract this summer.

Klopp is preparing for a huge overhaul of his squad after a disappointing season that sees them without Champions League football to look forward to next year.

When asked if Liverpool fans should be worried about Klopp's relationship with the owners after his request was refused, McAvennie told Football Insider: "I think something like that will not bother Klopp.

"He wants him at the club because he is a professional but the club want players that are going to be challenging for the team and it is money that they do not have to pay.

"I understand the owners, it is just part and parcel of football.

"He won't get a game at Brighton but he has so much experience for the young players to learn from.

"I do not think there will be a problem with Klopp. I think Liverpool will be back bigger and better next season."
