Pundit drops 'shambolic' Rangers claim after source's Kieran Dowell reveal - 'I am hearing...'

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers are wrong if they think they’ll be adding a “wonderkid” to their ranks by signing Kieran Dowell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker claimed that “wonderkids don’t go on free” but told the Gers to get players out the door before bringing in new arrivals.

On 25 April, sources told this site that the Light Blues are lining up a pre-contract offer for Norwich City midfielder Dowell.

The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer and available on a free transfer.

Michael Beale has already raided Norwich, signing Todd Cantwell in January, and is keen for Dowell to be the next arrival from Carrow Road.

McAvennie has suggested Rangers will be in for a shock if they are expecting big things from Dowell.

Wonderkids do not go on frees,” he told Football Insider.

You do not get a wonderkid for free, I keep telling people that.

He might be a decent player and he might come up here and hit the ground running, I am all for that. But every week I am hearing about the wonderkids.

That is where they are going to be aiming but they have got to get rid of some players. They have got seven walking out the door for nothing which is shambolic, it beggars belief.

The Gers are set to lose up to seven first team players who are out of contract this summer.

First team regulars including Allan McGregor, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent could all depart for nothing when their deals expire at the end of the season.

In other news, Rangers open preliminary goalkeeper talks as first summer signing close.
