Pundit Exclusive: Celtic player with only 7 SPL starts has clearly dazzled Lennon in training
Noel Whelan has suggested Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi was re-signed from Southampton because he had dazzled Neil Lennon in training.
The former Aberdeen and Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the 25-year-old failed to hit the expected heights last season and he has to repay the faith shown in him by the Northern Irish boss.
The Hoops confirmed last week that Elyounoussi had signed a new season-long loan deal after a hit-and-miss first campaign at Parkhead.

Whelan believes that Elyounoussi’s best performances must have come behind the scenes after some indifferent form at Parkhead last season.
Whelan told Football Insider: “He’s been given a second bite of the cherry here. Lennon obviously see something in the player in training and being around the training ground and says: ‘Yes, this guy deserves another chance and there’s more in him.’
“We do think there’s more in a player like that – he’s a very good player but we haven’t seen the best of him at Celtic.

“He needs to repay the faith that Neil Lennon has shown in him.”
Elyounoussi started just seven league games for Celtic during the 2019/20 campaign, with a total of 20 appearances under his belt.
He has played just 19 times for parent club Southampton since joining from FC Basel in 2018.
