Noel Whelan has tipped Celtic to try and sign Mohamed Elyounoussi permanently next summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Aberdeen and Leeds United striker urged the Scottish Premier champions to sign the “fantastic” 26-year-old if the price is right.
Elyounoussi scored a hat-trick on Sunday as the Hoops to make it 10 goals and four assists in his 18 appearances across all competitions this term.
Football Insider revealed yesterday that the club will need to pay at least £8million to sign the Southampton loanee permanently in January.
A deal would potentially see Celtic break their £9million transfer record paid to secure the permanent services of Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2018.
When asked by Football Insider if he expected the Hoops to try and sign Elyounoussi permanently given his rich vein of form, Whelan said:
“I think they will look to sign him next summer if he carries on with this run of form.
“He is showing great quality and finishing ability right now. There are not many wingers who can put the ball in the back of the net and if he can do it consistently between now and the end of the season.
“He gives them fantastic competition for places so Elyounoussi is one who you would like to bring in permanently.
“If he is available and the price is right, definitely take him.”
