Pundit Exclusive: Leeds have looked at signing 'Brilliant' £14m Villa player

Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Matty Cash for his impact at Aston Villa this season.

The former England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the “outstanding” 23-year-old was also being looked at by Leeds United prior to joining Dean Smith’s side.

Cash has started all eight of Villa’s Premier League matches this season, including Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton.

He played an integral part in impressive wins over Liverpool, Arsenal and Leicester City to help the Villans climb to seventh in the Premier League table.

A £14million summer signing from Nottingham Forest, Cash immediately established himself as Dean Smith’s first choice right-back ahead of Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed Elmohamady.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the full-backs start to life at Villa Park, Robinson said:

“Matty Cash has been outstanding. He was a player that Leeds looked at as well.

“Cash has done brilliantly since he has come in and it was yet another start for him at the weekend.

“I have been really impressed with him, he has done very well. Coming into a Villa team that has been playing well will have helped him.”

“Villa are a different proposition this season so it was a disappointing result for them at the weekend against Brighton. Brighton deserve credit but it is a game which Dean Smith would have earmarked for a win.

In other Aston Villa news, Kevin Campbell has told Football Insider summer signing was “unbelievable” at previous club.
