Kevin Campbell has told Leeds United to “pull the trigger” on a deal for Derby County teenager Louie Sibley.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League striker insisted the 19-year-old is a “talented player” and would be able to make the step up into the top-flight.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week the Whites have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of the midfielder as Derby have employed agents to help find buyers for a number of stars to help them balance the books.
The Rams are in the process of being taken over by Sheikh Khaled’s Derventio Holdings but currently do not have the funds to pay their player’s salaries for January.
Leeds have been long-time admirers of Sibley and were interested in a deal in the summer but Derby held firm on their £10million valuation.
Asked by Football Insider whether the latest development should encourage Leeds to make a fresh move for the teenager, Campbell said: “Listen, if Leeds United want Sibley then they believe that he is ready for the Premier League.
“If Leeds pull the trigger it would be a great move. He is a talented player and talented players in the Championship can make that jump to the Premier League.
“It is great that he is linked with Leeds and let’s see if they can pull it off.”
Sibley announced himself as one of the Championship’s hottest youngsters with a hat-trick in Derby’s 3-0 win over Millwall at the end of last season.
In this campaign, he has played 18 times across all competitions and registered two assists.
