Michael Brown believes Liverpool midfield Georginio Wijnaldum will attract offers from all of Europe’s elite clubs as he enters the final year of his contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and Manchester City midfielder believes the Dutch international will still give his all for the Champions despite his contract situation.

Football Insider revealed last month that Wijnaldum had rejected a long-term contract offer from Liverpool and was holding out for a deal that lasts until at least 2024.

Jurgen Klopp has started the 29-year-old in all of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season despite the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich.

Wijnaldum would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January with Barcelona interested in the midfielder, according to reports in Spain.

Asked by Football Insider whether he expects any other of Europe’s elite clubs to make a move for Wijnaldum, Brown said: “They’ll all be interested in him, that’s a given.

“For what he gives that Liverpool side, that energy, those late runs.

“I’m sure there are options open.

“You’ve seen the desire he’s played with over the last week. Even though it’s his last year he’ll be given everything.

“Liverpool will want to hold him down for sure.”

Wijnaldum joined the Merseyside club for a reported £23million fee from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 following their relegation to the Championship.

He has developed into a key player under Klopp but has not signed a contract extension to the initial five-year deal he penned on arrival.

Across his four years on Merseyside, Wijnaldum has played 192 games, scored 19 goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions for Liverpool.
