Andriy Yarmolenko is “like a new signing” for West Ham after his impressive return following his shattering injury, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker explained how the winger has made such an impact for his side.
Yarmolenko scored West Ham’s first goal in their 2-0 Premier League win against Manchester United yesterday as they ended the weekend fifth in the table.
Whelan is a massive fan of the Ukraine international and believes he is better even than Manuel Lanzini, who is out for three weeks with a foot injury.
“Yarmolenko’s like a new signing,” Whelan told Football Insider. “It’s great for Pellegrini to have him back after he missed most of last season. I’, really impressed with him, he’s involved in everything.
“He was at the heart of their win against Man United. He plays with passion and desire, he’s good going forward, intelligent and makes great runs in behind.
“Pellegrini must be so pleased to have him back. I know Lanzini is an exceptional talent, but Yarmolenko may be even better.”
Yarmolenko has scored twice for West Ham this season from five appearances – four of them starts – after a difficult debut campaign in which he ruptured his Achilles just two months in.
The Ukraine international was signed in the summer of 2018 from Dynamo Kiev for around £18million.
In other West Ham news, it can be REVEALED that Pellegrini has been offered multiple free agent forwards by the club.
