Pundit hails 'big news for Arsenal' as Sky reveal £58.8m Vlahovic deal close
Noel Whelan has claimed Arsenal could still sign Dusan Vlahovic despite the “big news” he is closing in on a move to Juventus.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 21-year-old will “have loved” to play in the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports (25 January), Juventus are primed to reach an agreement with Fiorentina over the £58.8million transfer of Vlahovic – who is wanted by both Arsenal and Tottenham.
The report claims it is the Serbian’s preference to join a side competing in the Champions League.
Whelan suggested Arsenal could make the deal possible if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang agrees to a mooted loan move to Saudi side Al Nassr.
“This is big news for Arsenal, but I think a lot of that potential deal for them depends on getting Aubameyang out of the door,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“That would have been the big thing. You’ve got someone there who is on £350,000-a-week – you can’t really afford to be paying two strikers that kind of money.
“If he went out on loan and his wages were covered, then that may well change the dynamic. But is the move out of Europe really an attractive one for him?
“Arsenal would prefer to have someone come in with cash and pay up his wages, but that’s not going to happen. I think he has to go to let another big striker come in.
“Vlahovic is a top-class player. I think he’d have loved the chance to come to England, but there may well be a lot more going on behind the scenes at Arsenal.”
Vlahovic has netted 17 goals in 21 Serie A games this term.
The Serbia international’s Fiorentina contract is set to expire at the end of next season.
