Pundit issues Elliott claim as Liverpool race to beat Chelsea to sensation signing

Harvey Elliott’s progression at Liverpool could be a decisive factor in the race to sign Fulham’s Fabio Carvalho.

That is the view of former Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ interest in the 19-year-old.

The Athletic revealed on November 3rd that Carvalho has rejected a new contract offer at Craven Cottage.

It’s reported the attacking midfielder will refrain from making a decision on his future until he has switched agents in January.

Carvalho’s current agreement with the Cottagers expires at the end of June.

According to Eurosport‘s Dean Jones (November 5th), Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid are all hoping to lure the teenager.

Robinson believes Jurgen Klopp’s track record of giving youngsters game time will work in Liverpool’s favour.

“If you have that calibre of club interested in you, you cannot make a bad decision as to where to go,” he told Football Insider.

“When you look at what Liverpool have done with Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, Klopp gives youngsters a chance. You would also include Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Caoimhin Kelleher in that bracket. Klopp is not afraid to give these youngsters opportunities.

“When you are a youngster of that level and you have clubs of that ilk interested in you, you don’t want your career to stop. The last thing you want is to have you game time cut off.

“Carvalho needs to look at where he can continue his career in the first team. Liverpool could be the best place to do that, and they could sign him.”
