Pundit issues emphatic Arsenal verdict after Ethan Nwaneri reveal via Sky
Noel Whelan has claimed “it is vital” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and his team keep Ethan Nwaneri “level-headed and working hard.”
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League striker stressed the importance of “getting the management right” for the 15-year-old.
Nwaneri made his debut for the Gunners on Sunday (18 September) as a substitute in a 3-0 win over Brentford.
The midfielder became the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League at 15 years and 181 days old.
As quoted by Sky Sports (19 September), Arteta said “a gut feeling” led to him giving Nwaneri his debut at the Brentford Community Stadium.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the development, Whelan said: “Arteta has been there himself as a young boy breaking onto the scene.

“He will know the tenderness of his age with him being just 15.
“The maturity is not there yet but the enthusiasm and talent obviously is. There is a reason why he is in the side. You are never too old and you are never too young. If you are good enough you are in the side.
“It is now about getting the management right. It is like [Archie] Gray at Leeds United. Both very talented players who need to be looked after and brought through in the right way.
“The guidance from the manager and the team will be vital. They need to keep him level-headed and working hard.”
