Pundit issues ‘massive’ Wijnaldum verdict after update on Newcastle pursuit
Paul Robinson has claimed it would be “massive” if Newcastle United re-signed Georginio Wijnaldum this month.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 31-year-old is a player who “would attract others to the club.”
Wijnaldum has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League after struggling to establish himself at Paris Saint-Germain.
However, a recruitment source told Football Insider (11 January) that the centre-midfielder is not interested in a return to St. James’ Park.
The Netherlands international would be open to a return England though with a loan move possible.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “Wijnaldum would be a massive signing.
“We are talking about a player who has been playing for Liverpool and PSG in recent seasons.
“When you look at Newcastle’s squad, they are light in the middle of the park. A player like Wijnaldum would be a big improvement on what they’ve currently got.
“Would he go to Newcastle? I can’t see it. Could he end up at going back to Liverpool?
“It would be a big coup for Newcastle if they could get him. He is a player who would attract others to the club.”

Wijnaldum, who won the Champions League at Liverpool, has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season.
He has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
