Pundit lambasts 'unprofessional' Christian Pulisic after 'dumbfounded' Chelsea news
Noel Whelan has slammed Chelsea star Christian Pulisic for his “unprofessional” comments about Thomas Tuchel.
The former Leeds striker was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 24-year-old’s quotes on being dropped by Tuchel for the Champions League second leg against Real Madrid earlier this year.
Writing in his latest book (via an excerpt published by Pro Soccer Wire on 20 September), Pulisic said he was left “dumbfounded” and “disappointed” after the German chose not to start him for the crucial European clash.
The USA international was brought on in the second half and registered an assist – but could not prevent Chelsea from losing the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Tuchel was sacked by the Blues earlier this month and promptly replaced by Graham Potter.
Whelan suggested the former PSG boss made the right decision to bench Pulisic based on his recent displays in a Chelsea shirt.

He also accused the 24-year-old of “kicking Tuchel while he’s down”.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He’s got to let this go.
“Why would you come out and say this now? Managers make choices, players just have to live with that.
“It’s very easy to come out and say it now when Tuchel has gone. He needs to be professional, work hard on getting into the first team and show what you’ve got to the new manager.
“He’s just kicking a man when he’s down.
“Tuchel probably made the right decision, as well, to be honest.
“The game has been and gone – there’s no point bringing this all up now.”
