Pundit: Liverpool could finalise 'real coup' after Rudiger offer twist
Noel Whelan has insisted Antonio Rudiger would be a “real coup” for Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old would give the Merseyside club a “solid set of options” at centre-back.
According to Eurosport (October 26th), Rudiger’s contract situation is being monitored closely by Liverpool – with Tottenham and Manchester City also interested.
The report claims the German’s wage demands are holding up a potential renewal at Stamford Bridge, with the defender now “likely” to leave.
The centre-back is contracted until the summer of 2022, having joined from Roma in 2017.
Rudiger has missed just one of Chelsea’s 10 Premier League games this season.

Whelan suggested the signing of the Germany international would add “even more steel” to the Liverpool defence.
“Wow, that would be just a real coup,” he told Football Insider.
“To have Rudiger and Van Dijk in the same side, with Konate to come in. Wow, that would be a solid set of options.
“It would add even more steel at the back. We all know what they’ve already got upfront and in midfield.
“There are not many positions in which you would say they need an extra player.
“But Rudiger would be some signing and give Liverpool two centre-halves that anyone would fear.”
Liverpool have a wealth of centre-back options, with Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez among those plying their trade at Anfield.
But they will be desperate to avoid a repeat of last season’s defensive debacle which saw them without a recognised centre-back for large parts of the campaign.
