Pundit: No wonder Everton want to sell Sigurdsson - 'he thinks he can just stroll about'
Gylfi Sigurdsson is a “wonderful player” but he has failed to live up to expectations at Everton, according to Frank McAvennie.
The Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 31-year-old has struggled because he is too inconsistent and “thinks he can just stroll about”.
A club-record £45million signing from Swansea in August 2017, Sigurdsson is out of contract at Goodison Park in June 2022.
Football Insider understands the Merseyside club will listen to offers for the Icelandic midfielder this summer despite his fine form this season.
Sigurdsson has enjoyed a resurgence under Carlo Ancelotti this term, with his 33 appearances across all competitions yielding six goals and nine assists.
When asked for his assessment of the attacking midfielder’s time at Everton, McAvennie told Football Insider: “A wonderful player but he has just not done it.

“He arrived with a big price tag on him but he has just not done it.
“He thinks he can just stroll about but it has not worked for him. If you want to succeed in the Premier League, you have to work hard. A lot of players think they’re better than that.
“He has had some incredible moments for Everton and we have seen in flashes why he was signed for so much money but he has not done it consistently. He has not done it enough. One game you’re like, ‘Wow, how did he do that?’ And then you do not see him for a couple of weeks.”
