Agbonlahor: Roberts tipped to explode after Leeds development

Tyler Roberts is the “perfect squad player” for Leeds United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward delivered his verdict after the Wales international signed a new three-year deal with the Whites.

Leeds confirmed the contract news last week (June 9) with Roberts set to enter the final 12 months of his deal.

Football Insider revealed on May 15 that Newcastle United were monitoring Roberts’ situation before he signed a new deal.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an extensive role in the Leeds side in the second half of last season after Rodrigo suffered an injury.

The versatile forward ended the season with one goal and two assists in 27 Premier League games, including 14 starts.

He is currently away on international duty with Wales at the European Championship.

Asked whether Roberts was deserving of a new contract, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “He’s the perfect squad player for Leeds.

“He’s not going to start but he’s perfect to have in the squad. They’re right to sign him up.

“He’s not going to kick up a fuss when he’s not starting.

“Yes, his numbers have to get better but maybe after having a year in the Premier League, he will have learnt a lot and will become a better player.”

Roberts now has eight goals and nine assists in 82 games across all competitions for Leeds.

He move to the Yorkshire giants from West Bromwich Albion in 2018 for a reported initial fee of £2.5million.
