Pundit salutes Arsenal coach hire after best-in-Premier League reveal
Noel Whelan has claimed the appointment of a new set-piece coach at Arsenal has been “justified” after their dead-ball success this term.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the new expert could also help the Gunners transform their “fragile” defensive fortunes.
As per The Athletic (July 5th), Arsenal appointed set-piece specialist coach Nicolas Jover during the summer after his contract with Manchester City expired.
The north London side have the most goals in the Premier League from set plays this season, scoring six (per WhoScored).
Their efforts this term have already matched their record from last season -when they netted six set-piece goals in 38 Premier League games.
Arsenal’s latest dead-ball success came during their 2-0 victory over Leicester.

In the first half, Gabriel opened the scoring after rising highest to nod home a Bukayo Saka corner.
Whelan insisted the Gunners are getting their “just rewards” after their hard work on the training pitch.
“It’s an area where they’ve been fragile defensive-wise as well, at times,” he told Football Insider.
“Look, set-pieces win you football games – that’s been said ever since I was coming through.
“If you work enough on them, you will get your just rewards and it will help decide games.
“At the minute, they are winning games through these set-pieces and that shows the justification for having the set-piece coach, it’s working.
“You have to have a plan and know what you’re doing all over the field. Those dead-ball situations are no different.”
Arsenal have transformed their season after finding themselves rock bottom in the Premier League after three games.
The north London club are now just three points away from the Champions League places.
