Pundit shares 'massive' Alfredo Morelos claim after Rangers development

Alfredo Morelos’ decision to stay at Rangers would have a “massive” impact on the Premiership title race.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Colombian’s future.

Sky Sports reported (25 July) that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is “very positive” about Morelos, 26, signing a new deal at Ibrox.

The Colombian international has entered the final year of his contract

He missed the final weeks of the Gers’ 2021-22 campaign after suffering a thigh injury.

Kenny insists Morelos must stay at Ibrox if Rangers are to have any hope of challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

“It would be massive for Rangers [to keep Morelos],” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“You have to keep these sort of players, it looked like he could be going but now we have positive movements.

“As a Rangers fan, you would be happy that he is looking like he is going to stay. He is important to Rangers and he will get them goals in that league.

“You have to keep those sort of players to challenge Celtic, you can’t let them go. So, that’s good news for Rangers and for the fans.”

Morelos remains injured and missed Rangers’ first games of the 2022-23 season against Livingston on Saturday (30 July) and Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday (2 August).

The Gers are next in action, against Kilmarnock on Saturday (6 August).

In other news, according to an expert, the Gers are expected to accept £4m Kemar Roofe offer after journalist’s update.
