Pundit: Sigurdsson will be sold by Everton for only fraction of £45m fee paid
Kevin Phillips claims Gylfi Sigurdsson may want to stay at Everton if the club secure a top four finish in the Premier League.
The former Sunderland forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, also insisted that Everton won’t be able to recoup much of the transfer fee they splashed on Sigurdsson in the summer of 2017.
Phillips has suggested that Sigurdsson may not want to leave Goodison Park if the Blues secure Champions League football.
“They aren’t going to get anywhere near what they paid for him, that’s for sure,” Phillips told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“Maybe that’s a sign of Everton thinking he’s a 30-year-old who’s has a good season but will they get that again next season?

“His value is only going down. Maybe it’s time to cash in and bring someone in who’s younger who they’ll get more years out of.
“It’ll be interesting to see how that one plays out. If Everton were to finish in the top four, would Sigurdsson really want to leave?
“It’s a chance of Champions League football but it wouldn’t surprise me, with his age and the money they could free up, they’d go for someone younger.”
Sigurdsson has four goals and four assists in 26 Premier League appearances this season with two of those assists coming in his last three games.
Everton currently sit sixth in the league and five points off the top-four spaces with a Champions League finish still possible.
