Jose Mourinho has been the inspiration for the Tottenham transformation of Dele Alli that has left Noel Whelan “stunned”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker Noel Whelan hailed the England attacking midfielder amid his latest matchwinning display.

Alli produced his third magnificent performance in a week as Tottenham beat Bournemouth 3-2 at home in the Premier League, scoring their first two goals to take his tally to three in Mourinho’s reign.

The attacking midfielder was similarly impressive against Olympiakos in midweek, when he ended a run of 16 Champions League games without a goal, and in last Saturday’s 3-2 triumph against

“Mourinho’s certainly getting the best out of Dele Alli,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He had got a bit stale under Mauricio Pochettino, now he looks transformed.

“Mourinho’s done something to him, flicked a switch. Whether that’s psychologically or through tactical tweaks, there’s no doubt he’s a different player to the one a few weeks ago.

“I’m stunned it’s been such an instant change. He looks hungry, fresh, confident again.

“It’s nothing against Pochettino, but sometimes a player, even a top international, just needs a different voice to get them going again.”

Tottenham have now won all three matches under Mourinho, who took over with them 14th in the Premier League.

The Londoners have rocketed to fifth spot, just six adrift of Chelsea in fourth place.
