Pundit 'sure' Rangers will now sell Joe Aribo after £10m reveal

Gabby Agbonlahor is “sure” a club will trigger Joe Aribo’s reported £10million Rangers release clause.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Aribo has shown he is a “top player” over recent seasons and Rangers will be desperate to keep hold of him.

The 4th Official reported on Wednesday (29 June) that the 25-year-old has a £10million release clause in his current deal.

He only has a year left to run on his contract and Rangers are vulnerable to losing him this summer after his impressive 2021-22 campaign.

The Nigeria international scored nine times and provided 10 assists in 57 games across all competitions, including a goal in the defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.

And Agbonlahor has suggested his performance out in Seville will have alerted clubs to his talents.

He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “There will be clubs interested in Joe Aribo.

“If there is a £10million release clause I’m sure that will be met because of what he showed in the final with his goal.

“Every time I watched him over the last couple of season he’s been a player that’s stood out for me.

“He’s very comfortable on the ball, always shows that work rate and can play a number of positions. He’s a top player who Rangers will not want to lose, definitely.”

Aribo moved to Rangers from Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2019 under Steven Gerrard.

He now has 26 goals and 25 assists in 148 appearances across all competitions for the Ibrox giants.

In other news, Rangers are in pole position to beat Celtic to a sensation signing.
