Pundit verdict on Arsenal signing star loved by Thierry Henry after update via Sky

Arsenal should steer clear of Anthony Martial as he could turn into another Nicolas Pepe, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Martial would be “sulking” if he was forced to swap Man United for Arsenal.

The forward’s agent Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports last Friday (10 December) he wants to leave Man United in January.

The Mirror reported at the weekend (11 December) the Gunners are one of four clubs chasing to sign Martial.

The 26-year-old was compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry when he first moved to Man United from Monaco in September 2015.

Lee Dixon revealed last year (25 March 2020) on the Handbrakes Off podcast that Henry had told him he could emulate his legendary status if he had the right characters alongside him in the dressing room – as Henry did in his early days at Arsenal.

“There’s something about Martial that I don’t really like,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“He turns up for one game but then misses three games.

“You could have another Pepe on your hands, I’d stay away from that if I was Arsenal.

“He’d probably be sulking if he went to Arsenal after being at Man United. I just don’t see that one happening.”

Martial has scored 79 goals and provided in 268 games across all competitions for Man United.

However, he has found the net just five times in 39 Premier League games since the beginning of last season, including 19 starts.
