Pundit verdict on Liam Scales quitting Celtic as footage emerges

Alan Hutton has claimed Celtic loanee Liam Scales has “put himself in the shop window” during his spell at Aberdeen.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers defender said it will take “something exceptional” for Scales to break into the first team when he returns to Parkhead, but doing well on loan could help secure a permanent move this summer.

As shown on Sky Sports (23 April), the 24-year-old scored an impressive strike from distance in Aberdeen’s 2-0 win over Rangers on Sunday.

The centre-back’s loan deal at Pittodrie expires at the end of the season when he is set to return to Parkhead where he is contracted until 2025.

Scales has made 35 appearances for the Dons across all competitions this season, almost triple his total appearances for Celtic since his arrival in 2021.

When asked if Scales will be able to break into the first team when he returns to Glasgow, Hutton told Football Insider:I think it is still going to be very difficult.

Celtic are strong all over the pitch, to break into that first team is going to take something exceptional. Can he do it? Of course he can if he works hard enough.

He is getting the experience of playing regular football and that is only going to make you better.

I think he is putting himself in the shop window as well. That is one of the main things for him.

Aberdeen are a good team so if you can go out there and show that you are capable and handle the pressure, that is good for him even if it does not work at Celtic.
